20$ for 10k words

For the first time in my life, I have the time to do what I want. I am voluntarily without a job, and don't want to/can't go back to work in my previous stressful job for at least another six months. At the end of which I will most likely have run through my savings. As a means of making a little something in my free time, I decided to offer my services as a ghostwriter on one of the most popular freelancing websites.

When my very second job proposal received an interest, I was thrilled. They said they liked the way I wrote and said that I could potentially be the perfect, long-term writer for them. My excitement was short-lived. There was a catch. They wanted me to agree to write at the rate of 20$ for 10k words. It takes me 3 to 4 days, working for a minimum of 6 hours a day to write good, usable, publishable 10k words. Which meant I would be getting paid around 5$ a day or approximately Rs 387. A day. And I thought... you know what? F**k you slave labourers. I might as well self-publish my own books on Kindle Unlimited and make at least as much as the slave labourers were willing to pay, plus own the intellectual property of my book.

And that's exactly what I am going to do.

I have set myself the seemingly impossible, perhaps extremely foolish task of publishing a new book every week, starting this week, continuing all the way through the end of August. The books will be available on Kindle Unlimited, so those of you with subscriptions will be able to read them for free. I will also try to make paperbacks available for those of you who don't like reading ebooks. (Presuming you want to read what I write at all!)

At the end of my crazy experiment, I expect one of the two things to happen-- I will either be burnt out and broke, or maybe, just maybe one of the many books I put out will make it big and be converted into a movie and I will be rich and famous ;) Kidding! (Or maybe I am not). And it occurred to me that there is a third possibility-- nothing much would have changed at the end of three months! But what is important is I will be writing what I want, something I have always wanted to do. So here goes nothing.

P.S- watch this space for updates.

P.P.S- the accompanying image has got nothing to do with the post. I just wanted you to click on the link ;)
