Attack on Doctors

The story of two unlucky blokes

Disclaimer: Any resemblance to persons/ events is purely intentional.

I want to tell a story. Well it's actually two stories happening in two separate parallel universes (you can tell a story is good when there is some Sci-Fi involved ;)).

Parallel universe 1

The main characters in this story are our hero, let's call him Unlucky Ulric, "saintly" police folks and the judge: let's call him Lethargic Luke. Our hero, poor Unlucky Ulric is wrongly convicted of murder and under third degree in the police custody, agrees to a murder he did not commit. Now Ulric is really unlucky as he hails from a poor background and has no "connections". Since murder is a non-bailable offence, he can't even get out on bail. The case reaches the court, which is presided by Lethargic Luke. The defence and prosecution each present their side. The defence makes a strong case, produces evidence to prove that Ulric is innocent. The prosecution also makes a strong case. But Lethargic Luke works only for a limited period of time per day. And he works for only 187 days in a whole year. So our hero, poor Unlucky Ulric is jailed, even though his guilt has not been established, for 4 whole years, before a verdict of not-guilty is given. But guess what? Our hero is so unlucky, that the society has already made up their minds that he is a murderer. He cannot find work, his family is condemned to poverty, and he often wishes he would have preferred a verdict of death-by-hanging for a murder he did not commit. Meanwhile, the "saintly" police folks are only given a rap on the knuckle by Lethargic Luke. His own role in the misery caused to Unlucky Ulric is non-existent, because kya karen? System hi Aisa hai.. It's not Lethargic Luke's fault that he doesn't have to work overtime, or that he works for only 60% days in a whole year..Not his fault at all..

Parallel universe 2

This story also has a hero (let's call him Doomed David), "saintly" patient by-standers, Wimpy Cowardly Doctors, and Two judges: Biased B*t*h and Biased B*st**d (henceforth called BBs)

Doomed David is a smart kid. He does well in school and achieves his life-long aim of becoming a doctor. He even beats the 1:1000 odds (or maybe even more) of getting a PG seat, and starts his residency. He does not complain when he has to do 36 hours duties, or sleep on the floor, or when he skips his meals because frankly, he has no time for complaining. Many a times, he has performed the duties of a class IV worker, but he doesn't complain about that either. His "free" time is spent in catching up on his sleep. But since he is such a doomed character, he happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and gets badly beaten up by "saintly" patient by-standers. How dare he tell them there is no specialist available? It's not the system's fault here that there is no specialist available at the hospital, no sir. Because obviously, it's a parallel universe remember? Different rules at  work here. Doomed David even loses his eyesight in one eye. His colleagues, the Wimpy Cowardly Doctors who are too scared to work in similar conditions, go on mass leave. Immediately a PIL is filed and immediately, there is response from the court chaired by the BBs. (How come the court responded so fast here, when it took four whole years in the case of Unlucky Ulric you ask..But let's not forget friends.. Parallel Universes. Different rules). BBs are of the opinion that the Wimpy Cowardly Doctors are extremely wimpy and cowardly and do not have the balls to face even the most saintly patient by-standers. In this case, no evidence is examined, and the decision is made within a few weeks.. because hello! There are lives at stake! (Wasn't Unlucky Ulric's life too at stake, you ask, but you are forgetting..parallel universes..different rules..)How dare the Wimpy Cowardly Doctors "neglect" their duties. They are given an ultimatum- either work or resign. Some of the Wimpy Cowardly Doctors want to resign, believe you me. They are tired of working for 36 hours non-stop and the pathetic living conditions. But like Doomed David, they too have become resident doctors against tremendous odds. There is no "resigning". "Resigning" means giving up on your PG seat. And going by the record of this parallel universe where there have been no convictions in any of the 53 cases of assault filed, we can be sure that the perpetrators responsible for Doomed David's condition will walk free. Because it's a parallel universe. Different rules at work here.
