Double standards
Indians have double standards. Its true. Life post -marriage is difficult for people like me who are a bit of feminists and rebels.
It sucks when people try to stereotype and expect people to stick to the stereotype. After marriage, a woman is "marked". People look at her and judge her. Is she wearing the "mangalsutra"? Is she wearing a bindi? Can she cook? Can she clean? Can she take care of her in-laws? Its sad that everything is this way..
I believe marriage is a 50- 50 partnership. If people believe my husband when he say he is married even though he does not dress different in absolutely any way, they should take my word for it too. When both the partners work, its just plain stupid to expect the wife to take care of the house all on her own.
A woman is expected to leave her family, her friends and everything that is familiar to her behind and start a "new life" with her husband's family. Years of watching shitty Bollywood movies has maybe sort of brain-washed the older generation. Logic has absolutely no place in everyday life. Sacrifices of all sorts are just expected and taken for granted. Why can't a husband and wife both move out of their parents' house and start a life of their own by themselves? Just try suggesting this to any in-laws and the daughter-in-law is thought to be a evil succubus who is "breaking the family" and "separating the son from his parents" .
I don't do any of the things that are "expected" and I don't care what people say. Why can't people think for a minute, why things are the way they are? Is there anything wrong with the way things are?
Life would be a lot more simple if people just let others live.
Something happened this morning which triggered all this..This seems to be the best way of coping with it.
I really hope we move forward instead of backwards.
